October 31 - November 1 at Tyler State Park-- just an easy hour and a half drive from Dallas.
If you have always wanted to start camping with your family but lack the know-how and the equipment, here's your chance. For $55 you can join other families and park rangers in learning how to start and cook with a fire and camp stove, how to pitch a tent, how to identify night sounds and go geo-caching, how to kayak and fish... All the equipment is provided, you just bring your food.
There are some bonuses to going this weekend: there is an emphasis on teaching Dutch oven cooking, and they usually have trick-or-treating in the campground. (One of my kids' favorite memories of camping is trick-or-treating at this very park.)
Go here ASAP to get more info. Tyler's beautiful park is very popular in the fall and it fills up.
