Big River

Big River at Arlington Theater

This was my first Broadway musical to see back in 1987, with my boyfriend and now my hubby, Scott. I loved it so much, I bought the cassette and listened to it over and over so that I listened the sound right off.
My expectations were low when we went a couple of weeks ago to the Arlington Theatre to see a local production. I have to admit, however, that I actually enjoyed it as much as the show I saw on Broadway. Maybe it was because I got to sit on the second row and only paid $10, but honestly, the casting is just right in this show. The music was every bit as full and fun.
Big River is the story of Huck Finn, and it was written by Roger Miller who wrote "King of the Road" or maybe you better remember his hotdog jingle "Decker is the Dog for Me." When the songs aren't the toe-tappin' type, they are heartfelt, tear-jerkin' ones.
If you think you might want to take your family, just keep in mind there are some salty words sprinkled throughout. For those $10 tickets, you need to email eventalert@eventalert.org Hurry though, it's only around for a couple more weeks.
If you're family is studying the Civil War era or Mark Twain, this will be a memorable enhancement.
