Way to go, Ben!

Let's brag on Ben Jones a little bit! He received an award from the Texas ACT Council "for meeting all four of ACT's College Readiness Benchmarks on PLAN (Pre-ACT) and demontsrating being on target for college readiness and success. This was on the 2008-2009 PLAN exam. Since Ben was at SALT since about 4th grade, this should be an encouragement to the SALT teachers who had him in their classes.

Scrapbooking on Wednesdays

Debra Jacobs is bringing her scrapbooking tools to SALT on Wednesday afternoons and would like to invite all scrapbookers to join her in the gym. This would be a fun chance to try out the cool Creative Memories tools.

Women's Prayer Meeting

Women's Prayer Meeting info from Susan Jones:
Right now we have about seven women who meet regularly every other Thursday, but we need some younger woment to join us because we are sort of on the mature side. We are praying that a new Bible Study Fellowship will start next September with the new BSF curriculum on Isaiah. If all goes well, we will have a pilot class next spring. If the pilot class goes well, we will be able to start the new BSF class.
The prayer group meets at my house and we just spend an hour together focusing on prayer for God to work in the class to bring people to himself

The goal of BSF is to be "Training centers, teaching the Bible to produce in all participants a vibrant relationship with God, and in as many as are called, a passion to commit without reservation to lead in the cause of Christ in the world." It is interdenomintational and free of charge.

The current evening women's class is beyond capacity size (500) with a waiting list.
Contact Susan here if you are interested.

Learn How To Camp

October 31 - November 1 at Tyler State Park-- just an easy hour and a half drive from Dallas.

If you have always wanted to start camping with your family but lack the know-how and the equipment, here's your chance. For $55 you can join other families and park rangers in learning how to start and cook with a fire and camp stove, how to pitch a tent, how to identify night sounds and go geo-caching, how to kayak and fish... All the equipment is provided, you just bring your food.

There are some bonuses to going this weekend: there is an emphasis on teaching Dutch oven cooking, and they usually have trick-or-treating in the campground. (One of my kids' favorite memories of camping is trick-or-treating at this very park.)

Go here ASAP to get more info. Tyler's beautiful park is very popular in the fall and it fills up.
